When is it time to consider counseling?

Depression is not a normal part of aging, but seniors do experience more events later in life that can trigger a change in mood. For example: a change in one's health or the health of a spouse, moving into a retirement community, death of a family member, or loss of a life-long friend. Any of these events can take an emotional toll resulting in sadness, fretting, or sleeplessness. In addition, many seniors can experience somatic (physical) complaints that are associated with a change in mood such as: agitation, digestive problems, and insomnia.

Most often one can work through these feelings but sometimes it helps to have a professional sift through the issues and provide support and guidance.

In-Home Counseling

For many, counseling is a private matter. The Senior Retirement Project supports that position by delivering discreet and private in-home counseling. In addition, in-home counseling expands access to those who are home-bound, residing in adult family homes, no longer drive, or have physical limitations.

Counseling Support for Caregivers

Caring for a parent, relative, or loved one can be emotionally challenging and physically draining. Our counseling services extend to family members caring for a senior or elder.

"CHECK-IN" Program for Out-of-Area Family Members

Living out-of-area or out-of-state can be difficult when one's parent or loved one is hundreds or thousands of miles away. The "check-in" program includes: personalized in-home visits, on-going behavioral/mood assessment, counseling, emotional support, conflict resolution, and status updates to keep you informed. This service is available in retirement communities, adult family homes, assisted living, and private homes in the greater Spokane, WA area.

Insurance

The Senior Retirement Project strives to keep fees low and affordable; therefore, we do not bill Medicare or supplemental insurance as there are substantial overhead costs associated with this type of billing.

Our fee for in-home visits is often less than the Medicare approved amount which is 40% for outpatient counseling services. Please see "Fee" page as rates vary based on type of service.
